The Washington International Academy (WIA) was established in the year 2000 to serve as a vehicle for Muslim students living within the DC Metro Area to learn nurture and develop into the leaders of tomorrow. Prior to 2013 the school operated under the name Washington Islamic Academy. Initially the Academy operated from a leased building with ten staff members and a student base of about 100. In 2007 the school moved to its new 6 million dollar home located at Edsall Road in Alexandria. In August 2008 an added 1 million renovation increased the enrollment capacity of the school to 240 students. Currently, an extensive team of professional educators are running this full-time Pre-K through 8th Grade academic institution in a suitable Islamic environment.
WIA believes in raising the standards of education through focusing on the development of Islamic manners and good moral characters amongst our students, while raising the academic standards by following and often exceeding Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). Our school strives to develop outstanding students who will be role models for future generations by combining academic excellence with an Islamic lifestyle.
