WIA Summer Guides & Assignments
One for every stage of your child’s journey with us:
- Elementary Summer Reading, Grades K–5. Grade-by-grade recommended book lists to keep our youngest readers turning pages all summer. Elementary students should read at least 4 books.
- Recommended Workbooks, Grades K–8. An optional, hand-picked list for families who would like a little structured skills practice. Choose one or more.
- Summer Family Activity Guide, Northern Virginia & DC. Local museums, gardens, and parks paired with simple “look, wonder, and reflect” prompts to enjoy together as a family
- REQUIRED: Middle School Summer Reading, Grades 6–8. One shared book for all students — The Little Prince — with a guided journal to complete by hand, plus a recommended list to choose at least two more books from.
- REQUIRED: 9th Grade Summer Reading. A required assignment for our incoming high schoolers that introduces our new ninth-grade literature program. The attached sheet has the titles and instructions.
Elementary School Summer Reading Guide (Grades K – 5)
Middle School Summer Reading Guide (Grades 6 – 8)
Summer Workbooks (Grades K – 8)
High School Grade Summer Reading Journal (Futuwwah Program)
Our Middle School and 9th Grade reading assignments are required and graded, and we will read and discuss them together during the first weeks of school — so please help those students read a little each week and bring their completed work on the first day. The first graded assignments in grades 6 through 9 will also be based on those texts. The elementary reading lists, the workbooks, and the Family Activity Guide are offered for enjoyment and enrichment, with no grading attached. Our Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers will also provide each student with a packet of enrichment assignments for their subjects.
