Elementary Classroom Teacher (Grades 1-4)

Job Summary

Responsible for instructing students in a homeroom elementary class (grades 1-4). Creates lesson plans, instructs students in science, English reading and writing, social studies and math, models character-building and good manners overall. Participates in faculty and staff school-improvement  initiatives. Ability to integrate principles of Islamic adab a plus.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Management

 

  • Maintain an effective educational environment and well-organized classroom to optimize student learning.

  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by creating a positive classroom community.

  • Develop incentives to keep students motivated.

  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with students that fosters trust, mutual respect and collaboration.

Planning and Instruction

 

  • Create lesson plans weekly and modify curriculum maps accordingly throughout the year.

  • Develop instructional resources for use in the classroom utilizing various curriculum resources.

  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

  • Meet course, school-wide and state (VA SoL’s) student performance goals.

Assessment and Communication

 

  • Observe and evaluate student's performance using a variety of methods, both formative and summative.

  • Differentiate instruction based on assessment to ensure all students are reached.

  • Maintain grades online continuously.

  • Communicate learning objectives and corresponding assessments clearly to students.

  • Keep parents informed of student progress and behavior.

    Administrative/Other

     

    • Observe and evaluate student's performance using a variety of methods, both formative and summative.

    • Maintain grades online continuously.

    • Communicate learning objectives and corresponding assessments clearly to students.

    • Keep parents informed of student progress and behavior.

    • Prepare and distribute required reports including quarterly report cards and progress reports.

    • Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.

    • Work with program coordinators and/or principal and colleagues to ensure initiatives are being met.

    • Attend staff meetings and  school events.

    • Participate in ongoing training sessions.
